Active Mediation System

A leading Asian telecom service provider, with significant presence in India, was planning to start greenfield operations in Sri Lanka and Channel Islands, UK. The service provider was seeking a billing mediation and provisioning solution that could:

  • Support a growing subscriber base that comprised of 120 million subscribers
  • Minimize dependency on multiple stand-alone solutions requiring manual intervention and resulting in errors
  • Support multi-vendor network elements for converged networks
  • Process more than 3 billion CDRs and fulfill more than 10 million activations per day

Aricent Mediation and Provisioning Solution

Aricent seamlessly integrated the Active Mediation System (AMS) and Service Provisioning Platform (SPP) solution to offer GSM, GPRS, and 3G services for India, Sri Lanka, and Channel Islands.

The solution is highly accessible and creates a user-friendly environment to manage the operator’s services with minimal turn-around time. The implementation is based on a centralized architecture with disaster recovery capability.

Aricent's solution interfaces with homogeneous network, catering to 250 network elements with 30-35 different activation adapters and 50-60 different call record streams. This converged platform handles over three billion call detail records and fulfils over 10 million activation requests per day. The schematic representation depicts a snap shot of interfaces / variants in the operator’s network.

Aricent AMS solution

  • Integrates with 250+ network elements, provisioning 120 million subscribers
  • Processes three billion CDRs and 10 million requests per day
  • Supports mediation and provisioning for the operator’s network in India, Sri Lanka and Channel Islands

Aricent AMS integrates with 250+ Network Elements supporting multiple CDR formats on the operator network. AMS collects and aggregates call and event data from multiple network elements and distributes them for a wide variety of usage, including billing and fraud management. AMS is capable of collecting accounting information, both in Real Time (packet based) and Near-Real Time (file-based) scenarios. AMS supports multiple protocols and has the ability to support a variety of business rules on any network including 2G, 2.5G, 3G, IP, WiMAX, PSTN, etc.

Aricent SPP is a real-time, flow-through service activation system processing more than 10 million requests per day. It supports the complete fulfillment process from the initial order to order decomposition, service instance design, resource assignment, service record decomposition, service turn-on and finally upstream notification.

Results

  • The Aricent solution was implemented rapidly, ensuring quick services roll-out and gaining market share for the regions
  • The highly flexible solution seamlessly integrated with multi-vendor network elements resulting in high performance and scalability to retain and attract subscribers every month, implement complex price plans and increase operator efficiency
  • The solution ensured that the client’s IT operations were centrally managed while administering different processes based on real-time process insight, resulting in a highly efficient system
