Carrier/Metro Ethernet

The advent of triple play services has enabled subscribers and businesses to share data, voice and video over the Internet. These services require higher bandwidth, which causes excessive usage of network resources and leads to the congestion in the network. The congestion is often the result the bandwidth bottleneck that occurs when too many corporate networks are connected to one Metropolitan Area Network (MAN).

Metro Ethernet has evolved to support higher speeds and better connectivity, significantly increasing the Value-to-Performance ratio of the system by providing powerful LAN connectivity using the Ethernet protocol and optical fiber. Ethernet’s simple plug-and-play functionality also ensures a simple migration path to a high-speed network.

Aricent has proven capabilities and deep domain expertise in delivering robust and scalable Metro Ethernet solutions. Aricent offers a wide range of solutions in the Metro Ethernet space:

Aricent has provided turnkey solutions in Metro Ethernet space ranging from product development and feature enhancement to sustenance of a Metro Ethernet switch. We have also demonstrated our expertise in the development of IP/GigE backhaul for CDMA2000 networks.

Development of a Metro Ethernet Switch

Aricent was involved in a turnkey solution for a Metro Ethernet edge device to be used in a DWDM network. The range of offerings from Aricent included the design and development of Metro Ethernet switch – a chassis based system with a virtual switch that provides features such as an RPR ring uplink, provider Edge Bridge on a single system, provisioning of Ethernet GigE on the downlink, QinQ (EWR), E-OAM, and MPLS on the WAN, and IPSec and VPN tunneling security solutions. Aricent also played a major role in designing, implementing, and integrating embedded firmware for Metro Ethernet Bridging, PWE3, STP/RSTP, RMON1/2, and TCP/IP.

Cellular Backhaul

For a leading Metro Ethernet vendor, Aricent has executed projects for developing IP/GigE backhaul for CDMA2000 networks, and added GigE/IP/Metro Ethernet capabilities to a RAN aggregation box. Aricent defined the complete product and leveraged its expertise to validate hardware/software architecture and requirements, and then provided development and testing services.
