Device Manufacturers

Connectivity is now taken for granted in devices. The question for device makers has become, “How do I design and develop devices to deliver the best user experience?"

To be successful in this new era of always-on connectivity, social networks and rich media, device manufacturers need to conceptualize and design the best user experience. At the same time they need to be flexible and agile, and challenge the notion of how products are sold and connected to networks.

Device manufacturers are seeking high innovation velocity, while seamlessly managing transitions between development phases in order to introduce feature-rich, differentiated products quickly and cost-effectively. Other device OEMs seeking to add connectivity to their products, for example in consumer electronics or healthcare, need innovation and speed also. But they also often lack critical expertise in communications technologies and development practices.

Aricent’s Devices practice provides solutions and services that combine strategic consulting, design expertise and engineering capabilities to help you discover new ideas for highly differentiated products, services and business models while accelerating time-to-market.

Product and Service Innovation

We work with handset, consumer electronics, original design manufacturers and others seeking to make devices and help them to rapidly develop and deploy products and services. Our software frameworks combined with our technology expertise allow our clients’ faster technology prototyping and validation helping them to reduce costs and improve time-to-market.

Creating the First Widget-Based Platform

We conceptualized, developed and helped launch the first widget-based UI and platform for feature phones. Called CellTop, it was a precursor to modern app-based smartphones. It gave our client, a regional wireless carrier, true differentiation against the larger national carriers, and helped to dramatically increase the data usage of their customers by making data easier and more relevant to access.

New Device Development

For clients seeking assistance with bringing new devices and solutions to market, we offer a comprehensive range of software frameworks from embedded software to middleware to applications for various mobile platforms including Android, iOS, and Symbian. We bring our deep domain expertise from working across the telecom ecosystem to inform every step. Many of our engagements benefit from our internally developed software frameworks and protocol stacks to jumpstart and de-risk new product development.

Capabilities

We offer our clients end-to-end services that combine strategic consulting, design expertise, and engineering capabilities to help discover ideas for differentiated products, services, and business models, while accelerating time-to-market. Our extensive ecosystem expertise combined with our position as a strategic supplier to chipset, platform and device OEMs/ODMs, means clients get highly efficient engagements that bring products to market faster and with less cost.

Mobile Operating Systems and Applications Integration

Our experience runs the gamut from base-porting operating systems like Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Linux, and Brew MP onto new hardware platforms to developing middleware components and application abstraction layers. Aricent has developed device drivers and board support packages on top of almost all mobile hardware platforms, including TI, Freescale, AMD and ARM series platforms.
