Aricent Helps OEMs and Service Providers Address Network Virtualization Challenges With its Cloud Based Virtual Customer Premise Equipment Solution

Redwood City, CA, MWC Barcelona 25 February, 2014: Aricent, a premier engineering services and software company, today announced that it is showcasing its cloud based virtual customer premise equipment (vCPE) framework from its suite of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) software solutions at Mobile World Congress 2014, in Barcelona.

Today, a CPE provides a number of network functions such as firewalls, access control, policy management and discovering/connecting devices at home using Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) or Universal Plug n Play (UPnP). Equipment vendors can help service providers cut down the cost of a CPE and reduce their maintenance overhead by implementing select network functions in software that can run on a variety of industry standard servers.

Aricent’s cloud based vCPE framework, which is based on Aricent Intelligent Switching Solution (ISS), is a software framework that virtualizes several CPE network functions, thereby helping reduce the cost of a physical CPE.

Aricent vCPE framework, which seamlessly integrates into Software Defined Networks (SDN), NFV and cloud architectures, provides a highly scalable architecture for cloud deployments. It can run on the cloud as a virtualized application or on the edge routers as a service. Equipment vendors can use Aricent vCPE software to build ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) NFV standards based vCPE solutions.

“Network functions virtualization is now a reality,” said Sridhar Raju, Assistant Vice President at Aricent. “Aricent vCPE framework allows equipment vendors to build solutions that help service providers reduce their CAPEX and OPEX, while quickly rolling out new monetizable services and improving the manageability of network services.”
