Zinnov Rates Aricent as Global R&D Services Leader

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — October 16, 2014 - Aricent today announced that it has been named one of the top 10 leaders in the fast-growing Global R&D Services market, according to Zinnov, a leading globalization and market expansion advisory firm.

Aricent makes significant strides in the latest “Global R&D Service Providers Rating (GSPR) 2014” study, moving up and to the right in the overall Leaders quadrant while continuing to rank as one of the two dominant Telecommunication R&D service providers. Aricent also now rates in the “breakout” or “execution” zones across six additional industries - Automotive, Consumer Electronics, Industrial Automation, Enterprise Software, Consumer Software and Semiconductor.

“Aricent is well established as a R&D leader in networking and telecom, and they’re fast closing the gap in other areas by diversifying into newer verticals and leveraging their embedded and software capabilities,” said Sundararaman Viswanathan, Associate Director, Zinnov.

Zinnov estimates that Global R&D services represent a $170 billion market opportunity, driven largely by the top 500 R&D spenders (who invest $577 billion in total R&D). Within the global R&D services market, India’s R&D services market is expected to double to $38 billion by 2020. R&D spend continues to be on the rise with a focus on building better, faster and smarter products, according to Zinnov.

“Zinnov’s latest market research validates the tremendous opportunity for product engineering services and software, distinct from IT and business process outsourcing services,” said Frank Kern, Aricent’s chief executive officer. “Several big trends are driving the industry forward - including the need for R&D acceleration, software-powered innovation and hyper-connectivity. As a product engineering specialist, we’re well positioned to capitalize on those trends - and excited to continue co-creating great products with the world’s top R&D companies.”

Zinnov’s annual GSPR study is an exhaustive analysis that covers more than 50 companies in the Engineering R&D space. Participants were analyzed across key parameters including strategy, human capital, product development capabilities, financials, ecosystem linkages, infrastructure & innovation/IP creation, lab infrastructure and customer relationships. The analysis process involved data collection from participating companies, interviews with end customers, and inputs from domain experts.
