Consistent user experience across devices of different form factors is a key requirement when delivering multimedia services to consumers. This a big challenge due to the fact that a myriad of devices exist in the market and each one of them exhibits different characteristics. This is where transcoding functions become important as the content delivery network attempts to tune the delivered media to the device to which it is being delivered. This intercept function also provides an opportunity to analyze video in raw form and derive decisions based on the analysis.  Aricent’s transcoding framework and multimedia algorithms help meet these needs of a customer solution.

The key features of the Transcoding Framework are described asbelow:

  • Aricent Transcoding Solution supports both file-based input source such as .mp4 files as well as network source
  • It allows to configure transcoded media output to file sink such as .mp4 file or to network sink such as RTSP/RTP stream
  • It supports transcoding of media parameters such as Codec format, video resolution, framerate and bitrate
  • Supported audio, video formats include – MPEG4, H264 and H265 video, AAC audio
  • Supports video resolution up to 4K video as input source
  • It can choose Aricent optimized ARM, Intel or GPU codecs or platform supported HW codecs to achieve maximum possible number of concurrent channels on a given platform.
  • Solution is readily available on Linux, Windows. It can be ported to any new platform in short time owing to the modular design of Aricent’s multimedia framework.
  • HTML based app allows to remotely configure, control transcoding channels on server and view statistics graphically using HTML page from client machine.
  • It is also available in the form of SDK so that it can be integrated into any specific work-flow or pre-existing application.
  • It is possible to configure to bypass audio or video track if it does not require transcoding – e.g., if incoming media is H265, AAC and expected output is H264, AAC solution can be configured to transcode video but pass-through audio.
  • Video analytics algorithms can be pre-integrated for use cases such as surveillance, ADAS etc. Few example algorithms that Aricent has developed are listed below:
    • Selective object filtering and tracking
    • Hard hat and safety vest detection
    • Video summarization
    • Pedestrian/Human detection
  • Flexible to extend to other video analytic algorithms based on need of use cases.
  • Tested with different media servers and IP surveillance camera source for interoperability
  • HTML based app provides flexibility to create, control channels and view stats of each channel run-time remotely.
