V2X

Today’s car systems use Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to enhance safety in vehicles. ADAS technology leverages vision/camera systems, sensor technology and car data networks to increase car safety. Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) technology, collectively known as V2X, overcomes the limitations faced by today’s ADAS systems and will serve as the foundation for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) – facilitating autonomous communications between vehicles, and between vehicles and infrastructure to improve road safety, alleviate traffic congestion, reduce fuel and energy consumption, and enhance the overall passenger experience.

The primary applications of V2X are road safety, driverless cars and efficientutilization of resources (fuel, time and roads). There are two standards specifications associated with V2X – Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) and ETSI Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) for American and European regions respectively.

There are two hardware units associated with V2X:

  • On-Board Unit (OBU) is an in-car unit, which communicates with peer OBUs or RSUs
  • Road-Side Unit (RSU) transmits safety and informative messages to OBUs

Aricent’s V2X Enabling Software

Aricent’s V2X is an enabling software solution for road safety applications and accelerates the development of V2X applications for Tier 1 automotive and auto OEMs. The software is platform-agnostic and can easily be compiled across target operating system platforms. The enabling software can be leveraged by automakers, Tier 1s and silicon vendors to build target applications such as road safety, driverless cars, forward collision warning, road hazard warning, curve speed warning, and intelligent transport systems.
